The right equipment is essential when thatching. Thatching Biddles are an extremely useful piece of equipment when working on a thatched roof. The biddles in this image are hooked into the roof just below the bundles of water reed. Biddles can speed up a job and, also, can get you to difficult to reach sections of a roof. The bundles of reed in the image are ready to be dressed with a leggat. Once dressed into place the reed will be held on the roof by hazel spars / scallops.
Thatching Biddles are Handy Yokes.
'Men fail much oftener from want of perseverance than from want of talent.' William Cobbett.
